Like every year, this year too, after traveling thousands of miles, these birds have reached the forest areas of West Champaran district of Bihar. Their main habitat is Udaipur Wildlife Sanctuary located in Bairia block, about 7 kilometers away from Bettiah.

The Forest Department also plays its role very well to protect these small and beautiful guests. In the Asian Water Bird Census, it was found that some specific areas of the district are inhabited by migratory and rare birds. These include Udaipur Wildlife Sanctuary, flood plain area of Gandak, Daruwabari area of Bagaha 2 block and Lal Saraiya area of Majhaulia block.
More than 320 species of birds reside in these areas. But if we talk about other migratory birds including Siberian, then about 45 species of birds have been recorded living in the district. These migratory birds start coming here in October, which continues till the first week of December.
After coming here, these birds stay till the month of February. The thing to note is that most of the birds coming on migration come here only with their pairs. In winter, these pairs of birds raise their offspring here and return back with their families in March.
