A person living here, 30 years ago, while intoxicated, had swallowed a cigarette lighter under a condition, which remained in his stomach for more than 30 years. But recently, when he started having stomach pain and went to the hospital, the matter came to light. To take out that lighter, the doctors had to adopt a very unique and intelligent method. With the help of a condom, he took out the lighter from inside the man’s stomach.
Let us tell you that a patient surnamed Deng, resident of Chengdu, recently started complaining of continuous pain and swelling in the stomach, after which he reached the hospital. This pain was troubling him for the last one month. When the doctors did gastroscopy, they were shocked. They found a black, rectangular object deep in the patient’s stomach. When Deng was told about the object, he remembered an incident from decades ago. “Around 1991 or 92, I was drinking with a friend,” Deng said. “He bet me that I couldn’t swallow a lighter. I accepted the challenge and swallowed it. However, a month ago, when the pain and swelling persisted, she decided to go to the hospital. Initially, doctors used the traditional method i.e. tweezers to remove the lighter. But it did not work out. A hospital spokesperson said, “The surface of the lighter was very smooth. As soon as we tried to hold it, it would slip. In such a situation, no way was found, so we had to abandon this method.” It was becoming impossible to hold the lighter and the mistake of leaving it in the stomach could prove fatal. In such a situation, the doctors decided to use condoms.
After all, how did the lighter come out of the condom?
Doctors said that a condom was best suited to safely trap the lighter and remove it. Using tweezers, the doctors slowly inserted the condom into the patient’s abdomen. Then he carefully gathered the lighter inside the condom and slowly took it out through the patient’s mouth. This entire process was completed in just 20 minutes. The thing taken out was about 7 centimeters long and had black, rotten matter deposited on it. Doctors stressed that the lighter contained flammable gas and if it leaked or reacted with stomach acid, it could be life-threatening.” Doctors warned the patient against his carelessness and said that it was a serious risk which could have resulted in anything.
