Kannauj News: Talgram police station of Kannauj had received information from an informer that cows were being taken in a container for smuggling. Based on this information, the police stopped the container near Nikwa Cut of Lucknow-Agra Expressway and searched it, after which the firing started.
Kannauj: Late evening in the district, the police exposed a gang of cow smugglers and had an encounter with them. This encounter took place in the forest near Nikwa village of Kannauj, in which three smugglers were injured due to police firing. Police have recovered 26 cows, three pistols and a large quantity of cartridges from the possession of smugglers.
According to the police, in the morning the Talgram police station of Kannauj had received information from an informer that cows were being taken in a container for smuggling. Based on this information, the police stopped the container near Nikwa Cut of Lucknow-Agra Expressway and searched it. 26 cows were recovered in the container and a smuggler was arrested by the police from the spot. However, other smugglers in the container, including the container driver, dodged the police and escaped.
Police siege based on information
The police started searching for the smugglers and received information that they were hiding in the forest near Nikwa Cut. The police immediately laid siege to the forest, but the smugglers started firing on the police team. After this the police retaliated, in which three smugglers were injured. SOG and three police station teams took part in the encounter. The police admitted the injured smugglers to the hospital for treatment.
Criminal cases registered against smugglers
The arrested smugglers have been identified as residents of Moradabad and Meerut. Superintendent of Police Vinod Kumar said that many criminal cases are already registered against these smugglers and a huge quantity of arms and cartridges have been recovered from them. The police have taken this action to effectively prevent cow smuggling and strict steps will be taken to prevent such incidents in future.
