Faridabad. Sarvodaya Hospital (Sector-8) located in Faridabad, Haryana has performed a surgery which is considered no less than a miracle in the medical world. Doctors created history by doing total hip replacement of both the hips of 27 year old Rohit Mundra, who weighs 165 kg. Given the combination of young age, heavy weight and worsening condition, it is considered very rare for such a complex surgery to be successful. This surgery was not only difficult but also proved to be a world record. Successful replacement of both hips in a young person with such heavy weight and short height is very rare in the world. Therefore, the team of doctors has given this case the status of medical miracle.
The pain increased so much that…
Rohit Mundra was suffering from AVN i.e. Avascular Necrosis for the last several years. He got this disease after Covid in which the blood supply to the hip bone reduces and the bone gradually starts deteriorating. The pain had increased so much that even walking had become difficult. On top of that, his weight reached 165 kg, which made the surgery even more challenging. Doctors had earlier suggested the option of weight loss surgery, but due to some medical limitations it was not possible. Here the pain was continuously increasing and the situation was getting worse. In such a situation, hip replacement was the only solution.
these problems occurred
Dr. Pankaj Valecha, Director of Sarvodaya Hospital, had done a hip replacement on Rohit last year, which was completely successful. Seeing the same good results, Rohit again reached Sarvodaya this year for his second hip replacement. Understanding the risks, the team of doctors performed the operation with utmost care and special technique and this difficult surgery was once again successful. Dr. Valecha told Local 18 that performing a total hip replacement in such a heavy patient is a big test for any surgeon. The more the patient weighs, the more difficult the surgery becomes. The parts that are inserted inside the hip are very important to be placed in the right place and at the right angle so that they last a long time. Even a small mistake in this can cause big problems.
Successful hip surgery extremely rare
Dr. Valecha told that there was a special team for this surgery. A team of five people included a surgeon and four experienced experts. I was the lead surgeon and there were four other people with me. Due to teamwork and latest technology, even this difficult case turned into a record-breaking success. Dr. Saurabh Gehlot of Sarvodaya Hospital said that successful hip surgery for a patient weighing so much is very rare.
dangerous if late
Talking about the causes of AVN, Dr. Valecha said that nowadays this disease is increasing rapidly among the youth. Many people take steroids to build their body in the gym, which increases the risk of AVN. Drinking too much alcohol, certain steroids given for medical reasons, or serious hip injury can also give rise to this problem. According to doctors, if the disease is detected early, treatment is easy, but if there is a delay, the bone starts getting completely damaged.
