America wants the immediate return of its unexploded GBU-39B smart bomb found in Lebanon. Washington fears that if this bomb reaches Iran, it will copy its technology through reverse engineering. Iran has already recreated American and Israeli drones in a similar manner.
America is very worried at this time. The reason is a bomb which did not explode and now the risk of it falling into the wrong hands has increased. An American GBU-39B Small Diameter Bomb (SDB) did not explode during an Israeli strike on Hezbollah-held areas of Lebanon and was found completely safe, according to reports. This is what is scaring America, because if this bomb falls into the hands of Iran, then there is a possibility of copying it through reverse engineering. This bomb falling into the hands of the enemy is no less than a headache for America.
Can Iran do reverse engineering?
If anyone thinks that Iran will not be able to understand such high-tech American technology, then he is mistaken. June reports show that when Israel attacked Iran with ‘Hermes’ and FPV drones, many of those drones were not destroyed. Iran picked them up and reverse engineered them into similar drones, and in many cases even better ones. Iran has already created its own stealth drone line by copying the American RQ-170 stealth drone. That is, if this GBU-39B bomb reaches Iran, then it can prepare a similar smart, long-range, GPS-guided munition by understanding its blueprint.
What did America do about GBU-39B?
According to media reports, America has immediately contacted the Lebanese government and demanded the return of this unexploded bomb. Washington’s fear is not only that this ammunition will reach Iran, but also that any of Iran, China or Russia can copy it through reverse engineering. Lebanese reports said the GBU-39B was part of an Israeli strike that targeted the Hezbollah stronghold of Harat Harak. Not one bomb exploded and the entire system including guidance unit, GPS module, electronics was found intact.
What is the power of GBU-39B bomb?
This bomb is small, weighing 113 kg, but the technology is very advanced. It has a guidance system that is not affected by weather or smoke and can hit targets with great accuracy up to 40 nautical miles away. America does not want to allow this technology to reach Iran or its allies under any circumstances. America’s concern is clear, if Iran gets this bomb, then it can open it and understand the engineering of every part and then increase its missile and drone capability manifold. And this capability of Iran is not a guess, but has been proved many times. The Lebanese government has not yet clarified whether it has the bomb or not, and how it will handle America’s request.
