GHMC Solar Footpath Project: GHMC has taken a big step towards smart infrastructure of the city by starting the Model Solar Footpath Project in Filmnagar and Jubilee Hills area. Under this innovative project, solar panels are being installed on the footpath, which will provide safe passage to pedestrians and will also generate clean energy. The electricity generated from these panels will be used in street lights, CCTV and other smart features.
Hyderabad: Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has launched an innovative model footpath project in Filmnagar and Jubilee Hills area. The objective of this project is not only to increase the safety and convenience of pedestrians, but also to bring together environmental protection and modern technology.
Solar powered footpath: A solar shade is being installed over this footpath, which will generate up to 10 kilowatts of clean electricity. This will provide relief to pedestrians from sun and rain and will also benefit the environment.
Constructed from recycled plastic: Instead of traditional tiles, this sidewalk is being made from recycled plastic paver blocks. This will reduce the plastic waste going to landfill.

Accessible for all: Tactile pavers and guidance bars will be installed for blind and visually impaired people, which will make it easier for them to walk. This design is also safe for senior citizens.
Project Details: This footpath will start from Ramanaidu Studio located at Road No. 79/82 and will reach BVB Junction via CVR Channel in Filmnagar. The project, to be built at a cost of Rs 1.68 crore, includes the development of 500 meter long footpath on the right side and 1,000 meter long footpath on the left side.
Its work has started from November 24 and the target is to complete it in four months. The project is a part of GHMC’s broader plan to make Hyderabad a more sustainable and pedestrian-friendly city.
