Kanpur News: Passing through these 57 locations of Kanpur division was no less than competing with ‘Kaal’. There was always a threat of death looming over the people passing by. Now Kanpur Police has made special arrangements to save the lives of the people passing through here. In fact, the continuously increasing road accidents in Kanpur division have finally disturbed the sleep of the administration.
After the latest report of the Union Transport Ministry, Divisional Commissioner K. Vijayendra Pandian held a review meeting with DM, SP, RTO and PWD officials of all the six districts. The kind of figures that came out in the meeting were shocking. 57 black spots have been identified in the entire division. Of these, 264 high-risk crash locations have been identified in 18 police station areas of Kanpur city only.
Highways became obsolete and these four routes proved to be the most dangerous.
The report made it clear that most accidents are happening on national and state highways. The graph of accidents on NH-19 (Old GT Road), NH-34, State Highway-46 and State Highway-68 is rising to the top. The review considered that the main reasons for these accidents included uncontrolled speed, road design with poor geometry and hundreds of illegal cuts on the road. The Commissioner has given strict instructions for immediate improvement by giving priority to these routes.
New use of ‘Critical Corridor’ to be built in Kanpur
To prevent accidents, first 10-12 most dangerous corridors have been identified in Kanpur city. One sub-inspector and four constables will be deployed 24×7 on these corridors. Their responsibility will be to keep the traffic smooth, stop overspeeding and take strict action against those who break the rules. At these places, a different type of lane marking will be done with shiny thermoplastic paint, so that the driver can be alerted from a distance.
57 illegal cuts will be closed forever
It has been decided to completely close the illegal cuts made on all 57 black spots of the division. Besides, it has been said that engineering improvements will be made on a large scale at 264 crash locations in Kanpur city. Speed breakers, rumble strips, cat eyes, warning signboards, clear thermoplastic markings and strict speed limits will be implemented at these crash locations. Where the turns are dangerous, the roads will be widened by immediate re-design and repair.
The biggest challan action ever
The police has launched its biggest ever campaign against those breaking traffic rules, in which action has been taken against nearly three lakh drivers. Apart from this, special action is being taken against drivers talking on mobile. Continuous action is also being taken against those driving without license and driving under the influence of alcohol.
- Without helmet: More than 1.71 lakh challans
- Three rides: More than 26 thousand cases
- Driving in the wrong direction: about 59 thousand challans
- Dangerous Speed: More than 35 thousand cases
So that every passenger can return home safely…
Commissioner K. Vijayendra Pandian said that road safety is now our biggest priority. Our aim is not just to issue challans, but to eliminate accidents from their roots. The administration is confident that in the coming three-four months, with these concrete steps, there will be a huge decline in road accidents in Kanpur division and the journey of passengers will become truly safe.
