Screams are being heard all around during Sri Lanka Flood. In many areas, entire villages have been submerged, 56 lives have been lost and 60 people are still missing. Colombo: Water all around, people climbing on rooftops to save their lives and villages buried in landslides…this scene of devastation and screams have been heard in Sri Lanka for the last several days. So far 56 lives have been lost in this catastrophe and more than 60 people are missing. Many areas have been completely cut off from the world due to the flood and the area has also been affected, where Ashok Vatika used to exist during the Ramayana period and where Sita Maa had stayed. The name of this area of Sri Lanka is Nuwara Eliya, which is included in the flood affected areas.
What is the condition of Ashok Vatika?
Flood scenes are being seen in many areas of Sri Lanka, but the worst conditions are being reported in the central mountainous areas. This is where Badulla and Nuwara Eliya are, it is being told that landslides are continuously happening in these areas and many houses have been razed to the ground. It is being told that floods have taken the maximum number of lives in these tea production areas and till now the situation does not seem to be improving.
Importance of Nuwara Eliya for Sri Lanka
Let us tell you that Ashok Vatika in Sri Lanka is located in Sita Eliya of Nuwara Eliya district, which is near Hakgala Botanical Garden. This area is considered the backbone of Sri Lanka’s economy. There are tea gardens here and apart from this there is also Nuwara Eliya Tourist Centre. In such a situation, the flood damage in this area has given a big blow to Sri Lanka.
Severe waterlogging and frequent landslides in other areas.
Talking about other parts of Sri Lanka, many main roads have been broken due to landslides, main roads have been completely closed due to water logging. Apart from this, many trains have been canceled in view of the severe waterlogging on the railway tracks.
Meanwhile, relief work is going on at a fast pace. People trapped on rooftops are being evacuated by helicopters and Navy teams are reaching the people trapped in the floods with boats.
It is being told that more than 300 mm (11.8 inches) of rain has fallen in the last 24 hours. Due to this, landslides are continuously occurring in many areas. The Disaster Management Center (DMC) said in a statement that 43,991 people were evacuated to schools and other public shelters across the country. Right now hundreds of families are trapped under the roofs and floods, the process of rescuing them is going on.
