Cyclone Ditwah Update: The deep depression formed in the Bay of Bengal is turning into Cyclone Ditwah. After changing its direction, red alert has been issued in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala and Karnataka. The Meteorological Department has warned of heavy to very heavy rain and strong winds in the next 72 hours. Fishermen have been advised not to go into the sea.
Cyclone Ditwah News: The weather system originating from the Bay of Bengal has suddenly changed its speed and direction and warnings from the Meteorological Department have sounded alarm bells in South India. On Thursday, this system has transformed into a deep depression and by the evening it has been confirmed to become Cyclone Ditvah. Its effect is going to increase rapidly in the next 48 hours.
According to the Meteorological Department, this cyclone is now moving north-west towards the coast of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and South Andhra Pradesh. Along with this, Lakshadweep, Kerala and South Red alert has also been issued in the coastal districts of Karnataka regarding heavy rainfall and strong winds.
Cyclone Ditwah formed over the SW Bay of Bengal near 6.9°N/81.9°E at 1130 IST today. It lay close to Pottuvil, ~90 km SSE of Batticaloa and ~700 km SSE of Chennai.
