Ear Pain Treatment: When there is pain in the ear, a person is ready to do anything, especially when the pain starts suddenly or occurs at night, when it is difficult to reach the doctor immediately. Many people without thinking put any oil, garlic juice, mustard oil or any home remedy available at home in the ear, thinking that this will provide immediate relief from pain, but do you know that doing so can worsen the condition of your ear? In many cases, people face problems like serious infection, hearing loss, or damage to the eardrum just because of wrong home remedies.
ENT doctor Shikha Bani of Apollo Hospital, Noida says that putting anything in the ear without consultation can be very dangerous. According to him, even today many patients come who have put mustard oil, heated garlic or juice of any herb in the ear during pain, due to which the infection increases further. Doctors say that ear pain can occur due to many reasons like infection in the outer skin, accumulation of pus in the middle ear, fungal infection, growth of bacteria or swelling inside. Not only this, sometimes pain due to throat infection, inflammation of tonsils, tooth cavity or jaw problem is also felt in the ear. This is the reason that it is not right to panic and take wrong steps in case of pain. If the pain is increasing, there is discharge, hearing loss or fever, then it is important to take the right treatment immediately. The doctor clearly says that putting oil in the ears in an attempt to get relief is the biggest mistake. It is important to know the right method, so that the problem can be cured quickly instead of increasing.
Do not put oil in the ears
According to the doctor, as soon as pain occurs, people immediately add mustard oil, whereas this is the most wrong step. Nowadays, putting mustard oil in the ears is considered an old and wrong practice. This can increase infection, cause fungal problems and moisture accumulation inside the ear worsens the condition. Nothing should be put in the ear without doctor’s advice.
What to do if you have ear pain?
If a doctor is not immediately available, two safe measures can be taken:
1. Hot fomentation
Apply warm compress around the painful ear with a cloth soaked in lukewarm water. This provides some relief from pain and swelling and reduces the feeling of blockage.
2. Safe pain reliever
Medicines like paracetamol or crocin can be taken, but only those which are considered safe. Keep in mind that even after taking the medicine, do not put oil, drops or home remedies in the ear.
Symptoms of external ear infection
The pain in Otitis Externa remains constant. Its symptoms may be like this:
-ear pain
-heaviness inside
-Watery or pus-like discharge
-Itching or burning
-feeling blocked
If such symptoms appear, do not delay treatment.
What does discharge mean?
Discharge from the ear gives several signs:
-Watery flow – sinus or nose-throat problems
-Yellow discharge – bacterial infection and beginning of pus formation
-Discharge mixed with blood is a sign of serious infection or internal injury.
Don’t make the mistake of taking such a situation lightly.
Never put wrong things in your ears
Dr. Shikha Bani told that recently a patient put the juice of sunflower in his ear, due to which he got serious fungal infection and had to come to the hospital with severe pain and swelling. This is why doctors repeatedly warn that putting home remedies or oil in the ears is dangerous.
If any of these symptoms appear, consult an ENT specialist immediately:
-Pain does not subside in 1–2 days
-Water or pus started coming out
-high fever
– hearing loss
-Dizziness
-Frequent ear pain
Correct treatment can be done only after investigation.
