Where is Guinea Bissau?
Guinea-Bissau is a small coastal country in West Africa, whose capital is Bissau. Its area is about 36000 square kilometers and its population is considered to be around 20 lakhs. It is bordered by Senegal in the north and Guinea in the south and east, while the Atlantic Ocean lies in the west. Guinea-Bissau became independent from Portugal in 1974. Its official language is still Portuguese. The country’s economy is very weak and it mainly depends on the production and export of cashew. Most of the people here depend on agriculture and suffer from poverty and corruption.
Why is the politics of Guinea Bissau unstable?
This country has been continuously facing political instability and military interference. Politically, Guinea-Bissau is counted among those countries in the world where military coups and military interventions have taken place many times. Since independence, governments have been removed here many times, elections have been stopped and the army has taken power. Even in recent years, electoral disputes and power struggles have been common, which has weakened the process of democracy.
