Krishi Vigyan Kendra located at Balliapur in Dhanbad district was established in the year 2004. Even today, this center remains a strong support for farmers towards hope and improved farming. The experts of Krishi Vigyan Kendra reach the remote areas of ten blocks and inform the farmers about modern farming techniques. Here regular training is given in three major areas including vegetable production, fruit production and advanced cultivation of wheat-mustard.
Tomato is cultivated mostly in the winter season. Agriculture Officer Dr. Anil Kumar gave detailed information to the farmers on this subject. He told that if the farmer wants to sow the seeds of Shankar breed i.e. hybrid variety of tomato in one acre of field. So about 80 to 100 grams of seeds will be sufficient. This seed becomes completely ready for harvest in 120 days.
do farming like this
Dr. Kumar says that by adopting the right technology, it is possible to produce about one to one and a half quintal tomatoes in one acre of land. For this, it is necessary to use balanced amounts of manure and fertilizers in the field. He said that using 150 kg nitrogen, 100 kg phosphorus and 75 kg potash per acre of land makes tomato plants stronger and also increases the yield.
Explaining the method of seed planting, he said that a distance of 50 to 100 centimeters should be kept between the plants. This improves air circulation in the plants and the process of tomato bud formation remains smooth. Good plowing of the field, construction of drains and proper arrangement of water also affects the production. If there is sufficient moisture in the field and the plants are taken care of from time to time, better quality tomatoes can be obtained.
