Gardening Tips: If you adopt these 4-5 easy measures then your hibiscus plant will remain green even in cold. The yellow leaves will gradually reduce, new shoots will start emerging and by February the plant will again be laden with flowers.
Gardening Tips: As the winter season approaches, the hibiscus plant becomes lethargic. This plant, which gives abundant flowers in summer and rainy season, suddenly stops in cold weather. Neither buds are formed, nor do the leaves have the same shine as before. Sometimes the leaves turn yellow and start falling. People get scared that the plant might die. But, the truth is that with a little proper care and special kind of watering, hibiscus starts growing brilliantly again. Village farmer Bhagirath Patel says that hibiscus is actually a tropical plant, that is, it likes sunlight and warmth. As winter progresses, the plant goes into dormancy. This means that it slows down growth to save its energy. But, this plant will not leave you in winter, know how…
Why do hibiscus leaves turn yellow in cold?
It is common for hibiscus leaves to turn pale yellow in winter. But, excessive yellowness indicates lack of care. There are many reasons for this. Due to cold, the roots shrink and are unable to absorb nutrients. If there is less sunlight, chlorophyll decreases, due to which the leaves start appearing yellow. Soil dries late in winter. In such a situation, giving too much water can also cause fungal infection. The plant stops forming buds and the old leaves start falling on their own, so do not panic, just take a little care and the plant will become strong again.
Sunshine is most important in winter
Hibiscus always likes bright sunlight. In summer even half sunlight is enough, but in winter it needs at least 6–7 hours of direct sunlight. Try to keep the plant in the south or south-east direction. Do not keep the plant in the balcony where there is less sunlight. If you do not get sunlight daily, then shift to a sunny place for 2-3 hours 2-3 times a week. After getting sunlight, the plant regains its old energy and slowly starts forming new buds.
Water less but at the right time.
The soil does not dry quickly in winter, so watering should always be done thoughtfully. Water only 1–2 times a week. Always water only when the soil is dry from the top 2 inches. Too much water damages the roots and turns the leaves yellow. But, now let’s talk about that special water which gardeners also use.
4. Add this special water, the plant will bloom
Hibiscus needs special nutrient water in winter. This water gives instant strength to the plant and helps in the formation of new buds. Soak a handful of mustard cakes (mustard cakes) in a bucket of water for 12 hours. In the morning, filter this water and mix 2 parts clean water in 1 part solution. Water the plant with this solution only twice a month. This solution provides nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium to the plant, due to which the leaves remain green and the plant becomes ready to give flowers even in cold.
