Practical Tips for Waking Up with Light
A new study says that it may be better to wake up with soft light instead of a loud alarm. Light light means fit the light in the room in such a way that at the time of waking up there will be gradually dim light and then it will increase. This is called Dawn Simulation. Dawn simulation is artificial light like sunrise. In this, the cortisol hormone controls the awakening response in such a way that it causes less shock. Waking up with dim light or pleasant or specially designed sounds reduces prolonged drowsiness. Actually, when it is morning, our brain comes into alert state only after recognizing the sunlight. This is the biological clock of any organism. Therefore, when dim light comes on, the brain senses that natural light and comes into an alert state. According to the study, controlled experiments have shown that dawn simulation alters the hormonal awakening response and increases subjective alertness without the stress induced by sudden noise.
If there is no alarm then how to get up in the morning?
According to the study, use sunrise alarm or dawn simulator. It gradually increases the light over 20–30 minutes, creating a natural sunrise-like atmosphere. This reduces morning drowsiness and sudden increase in stress hormones. If sound is required, choose a soft sound. Soft music or nature sounds can help wake you up along with light. Repeatedly pressing snooze disrupts the waking process and increases sleepiness. People who work shift, have sleep disorders or have certain medical conditions may need different measures. Therefore, you can moderate or slow down the speed of light as per your convenience.
