Jharkhand government is continuously taking new initiatives for the social and economic upliftment of women. In this context, the state government has started Widow Remarriage Promotion Scheme to encourage widow women to start a new life. Presently this scheme is being operated by the Social Welfare Department. It is aimed at women who had lost the courage to move forward in life due to social constraints and economic difficulties after losing their spouse. The incentive amount given by the government provides them a new path to independence and self-reliance.
Under this scheme, financial assistance of Rs 2 lakh is given to widow women who remarry. This amount is sent directly to the beneficiary’s account, which she can use for starting a new life, financial stability or any other need.
What are the criteria set for eligibility?
District Social Welfare Officer Palamu, Neeta Chauhan said that this initiative of the government is an important step towards giving social respect to women and promoting remarriage. According to him, many women used to shy away from remarriage due to social pressure, but now government assistance is giving a positive direction to this thinking. Some eligibility criteria have been fixed to avail the benefits of the scheme. The beneficiary must be a native of Jharkhand. The woman should be of marriageable age and should be a widow. After remarriage, the woman’s husband should not be permanently employed in the Central or State Government, public sector, or any government institution, nor should he be an income tax payer. For this, it is mandatory for the applicant to submit a self-declaration form to the District Social Welfare Office, which will include information related to the financial condition and employment of the new husband.
Light of happiness and self-esteem in the lives of women
The positive impact of the scheme is also being seen in the district. A total of 5 beneficiaries of Palamu district were targeted to get benefits under this scheme. In which 3 beneficiaries have got the benefit of this scheme. Under which an amount of up to Rs 2 lakh has been provided to the beneficiaries. This assistance not only became a means of relief for her family, but also sent a message to the society that widow remarriage should be encouraged, not discouraged. This initiative of the government is filling the lives of widowed women with new happiness and self-respect. This scheme is proving to be an effective step towards social harmony and women empowerment.
