Ranchi. Aditya, who runs a CAT coaching institute in Ranchi, the capital of Jharkhand, is a faculty member and himself a CAT topper, shared special tips for the candidates who want to pass this exam. Aditya explains that you will have to commit for at least 12 months and maintain a schedule of 8 hours every day. For this you will have to forget your Holi, Diwali, Dussehra. Because the one thing that is most important in this exam is consistency. Nothing without consistency.
For this, first of all you will have to be consistent. If you have chosen 12 months, then make a schedule of 8 hours every day for 12 months. Even for a day without doing Naga. Suppose it is Dussehra, then study early in the morning, go out for a walk in the evening, but definitely complete your studies.
You can take help of these books
Arun Sharma’s book is considered very good for CAT. It is easily available in the market. You can easily practice this book 25 to 30 times. This will make your base much stronger. If your command of Maths is not good at all, and you don’t even know English, then in the first 3 months you will have to strengthen your base only.
You just read NCERT and practice it. After completing NCERT for the first 3 months, go to a slightly advanced level and start taking reference books one by one. Start reading Times of India, buy a grammar book from the market. Just do this for the next 3 months.
Do this for the next three months
Then in the next three months, when you complete NCERT thoroughly and also complete any reference book, then take Arun Sharma’s book and read it again and again as much as possible. Be it Reasoning or English, prepare everything well. In this way you will have to divide your schedule for three months. If we talk about current affairs, Indian Express is a good newspaper.
You can start reading it after Times of India. If English is weak then give at least 2 hours of time every day and start writing an article in your own language every two-three days and show others how it is and improve it by taking the feedback very positively.
What to do in the last three months
The last 3 months will be only for mock tests and practice. When you go for the exam, do not think whether 40 lakh people are appearing for the exam or 15 lakh. This doesn’t concern you. Your exam is just between you and the computer screen in front of you, there is no third person.
If you follow this routine with consistency for 12 months, then IIM will not be a big deal for you. You will easily secure a seat in any IIM. But consistency is something that even good people cannot do. Just have to focus on this thing.
