All About Broken Heart Syndrome: When you love someone, he/she has a special place in your heart. If someone gets cheated in love, it breaks the heart. Many people get heartbroken in love and their health is badly affected. It is believed that heartbreak is just a matter of saying and it has nothing to do with the heart. However, according to health experts, heartbreak has a direct impact on heart health. Due to emotional stress, our heart gets damaged and we can become victim of Broken Heart Syndrome.
Dr. Vanita Arora, senior cardiologist at Indraprastha Apollo Hospital, New Delhi, told StuffUnknown. That broken heart syndrome is a heart related problem. When a person suffers emotional shock, the heart muscles become weak and the heart is unable to pump blood properly. In this condition, people experience symptoms like chest pain, shortness of breath, rapid heartbeat. However, there is no blockage in the arteries. This syndrome is seen more in women than in men. Broken heart syndrome is not just caused by betrayal in love, but can be triggered by any kind of extreme mental and emotional stress.
Cardiologist told that sudden break of a relationship or emotional trauma can cause broken heart syndrome. Apart from this, sudden death of someone close, serious accident, loss of job or financial stress, fear, shock or quarrel, sudden bad news can also happen. In these conditions, the body suddenly releases excessive stress hormones, which temporarily disrupts the functioning of the heart. Most patients feel symptoms like chest pain, restlessness, sweating, difficulty in breathing and rapid heartbeat. Symptoms like heart attack can be seen in ECG and blood test, but blockage is not found in angiography. This condition seems serious, but it is not as dangerous as a heart attack.
According to Dr. Vanita Arora, the good thing is that broken heart syndrome is usually temporary and can be cured in a few weeks with proper treatment. In most cases the heart returns to its normal state. However, the risk of recurrence of this syndrome increases in people with frequent emotional stress, anxiety attacks and weak mental health. Therefore, along with physical treatment, doctors also advise taking care of mental health. To avoid broken heart syndrome, it is very important to reduce stress. The heart is not just for pumping, but it is a sensitive organ associated with emotions. It is very important for everyone to take care of this.
