Cauliflower Cultivation Tips: The problem of buttoning in cauliflower increases due to poor nitrogen management of most of the farmers. According to experts, due to use of nitrogen at wrong time or in excessive quantity, cauliflower flowers become small and start becoming like tomatoes. Let us know the solutions to prevent the problem of buttoning.
Shahjahanpur : The coming month of December is considered very important for cauliflower cultivation, because this time gives farmers an opportunity to earn bumper profits in a short period from cauliflower cultivation. However, cauliflower is a very sensitive crop, in which even a small mistake in management can have a deep impact on the production. These days, the problem of ‘buttoning’ is being seen most in the fields, which remains a matter of concern for the farmers.
Due to this problem, instead of developing fully, the flowers remain small in size i.e. like buttons or tomatoes, due to which there is a huge decline in both the quality and weight of the crop. Since it is a crop of short days, there is very little scope for improvement in it. In such a situation, farmers need to monitor the crop to get good production and right market price.
Due to this the risk of buttoning increases
District Horticulture Officer Dr. Puneet Kumar Pathak says that the problem of buttoning in cauliflower is mainly the result of nutrient imbalance and wrong agricultural management. Often farmers do not pay attention to the lack of nitrogen or moisture in the soil, due to which the vegetative growth of the plant stops. Farmers should always select only 20 to 25 days old healthy seedlings for transplantation, because planting older seedlings increases the risk of buttoning. Apart from this, it is important to maintain moisture in the field and make balanced use of urea and manure.
