Women Success Story: Ganeshi Markam of village Bastarbuda of Baderajpur development block of Kondagaon in Chhattisgarh has changed the economic condition of her family by joining National Rural Livelihood Mission Bihan and making animal husbandry and farming their livelihood. Today she remains an inspiration in the form of ‘Lakhpati Didi’.
Ganeshi Markam, a resident of Bastarbuda, was earlier dependent only on agriculture and labour, due to which the family’s annual income was only Rs 66 thousand. After joining Bihan Yojana, he got the assistance of Rs 15 thousand RF, Rs 60 thousand CIF and loan, which proved to be the turning point of his life.
Ganeshi started goat rearing with only two goats. Regular care, vaccination and technical guidance brought him success. Today, he has more than 200 goats in his enclosure, the income from which has strengthened him financially.
With the help of the group, Ganeshi started pig rearing along with goat rearing. At present he has 10 pigs. Along with this, there has been a big increase in their annual income due to improved cultivation of maize. She is earning an annual income of about Rs 3.56 lakh from these three activities.

Ganeshi Markam has also given employment to a person to take care of the goats. The family income has increased four times and has become a strong basis for self-reliance. Their social life has also become much better than before.
The National Rural Livelihood Mission team has empowered groups like Ganeshi by providing training, financial assistance and technical guidance. Ganeshi Markam is now an inspiration for other rural women, showing that with the right guidance and hard work, village women can also become economically empowered.
