After 48 years, the historic clock tower has been made operational once again on the initiative of Gaya Municipal Corporation. During its restoration, care has been taken that this historical heritage is not fundamentally changed in any way.
Gaya district of Bihar is a historical and ancient city. There are many religious places as well as ancient heritage here. One of these is Rajendra Tower which is the identity of Gaya city. Rajendra Tower is the symbol of the Municipal Corporation and Rajendra Tower of the city is also the brand ambassador of Gaya Municipal Corporation.
Rajendra Tower, located in the heart of the city, was built during the British rule. It is also known locally as Tower Chowk. The construction work of the tower started in 1910 and was completed in 1914. The tower was built by the then District Magistrate George Oldham. At that time both Bihar and Odisha (then Orissa) were one state.
The tower was also called clock tower. There was a big clock around the tower. After the end of British rule in 1947, it also started being called Ghantaghar. In 1981, the name was changed from Ghantaghar to Rajendra Tower because the then Chief Minister Jagannath Mishra appointed the first President Dr. Installed the statue of Rajendra Prasad and converted it into Rajendra Tower. After that people started knowing it by the name of Rajendra Tower.

Today Rajendra Tower is widely considered a symbol of the city. Gaya city’s social worker and expert Vijay Kumar Mitthu says that the identity of the city is Rajendra Tower. The tower needs no introduction, the sound of the clock installed here could be heard far away. There were clocks installed all around the tower.
Due to the clock being installed in the tower, this area gradually became commercial but in 1977 the clock broke down. After 48 years, the historic clock tower has been made operational once again on the initiative of Gaya Municipal Corporation. During its restoration, care has been taken that this historical heritage is not fundamentally changed in any way.
It has been built in brick cut design due to which each brick has been re-carved. In this, through the digital sound system, every hour the clock tower sounds the sound of the bell for the pedestrians walking on the road. A total of 84 lights have also been installed in it. Keeping in mind the foundation week of the Municipal Corporation, tricolor lighting of the clock tower has been kept.
