Rohtas News: In Rohtas, the administration has started shelter site, feeding point, sterilization, vaccination and monitoring campaign for stray dogs. For this, separate officers will be appointed, dogs will get separate facilities in every ward.
Rohtas. The administration has taken big steps for the control and safe management of stray dogs in the district. Shelters for stray dogs will be constructed in municipal bodies. Along with this, a feeding point will be arranged for dogs in every ward so that the feeding of stray animals can be managed in a regular and controlled manner. Municipal bodies will also purchase vehicles to catch stray animals and keep them safe.

Along with giving anti-rabies injection to these dogs, the Animal Husbandry Department will also sterilize them. In this regard, Joint Secretary of the Government Manoj Kumar has issued instructions to the executive officers of the Municipal Corporation, Municipal Council and Panchayat. It has been said in the instructions that as per the order of the Supreme Court, the municipal bodies will have to ensure complete arrangements for sterilization, deworming, vaccination, immunization, shelter or pound, cart and cage etc. of stray dogs.

Besides, instructions have also been given to the city manager to appoint a nodal officer, who will be responsible for the work and monitoring of this scheme. An intensive campaign will be conducted every three months to identify and monitor stray dogs. Apart from this, instructions have also been given to provide helpline numbers by coordinating with top nodal officials of all private and government educational institutions, hospitals, sports complexes, bus stands/depots, railway stations etc.

According to the animal census conducted by the Animal Husbandry Department in 2019, the total number of dogs in the district is 1421, of which there are 1346 dogs in rural areas and 75 in urban areas. In the urban area, 36-36 dogs have been found in Sasaram and Dehri blocks, while in Koath. In rural areas, the highest number of dogs are in Tilothu block, where a total of 292 dogs were found.
After receiving instructions from the department, the Municipal Corporation has also started action. Municipal Commissioner Vikas Kumar said that a shelter will be constructed for stray dogs and sterilization and vaccination will also be done.
