Ingredients needed to make
-Rice flour-1 cup
-Curd – half cup
– Semolina – half cup
-Onion-1 finely chopped
-Carrot-1 grated
-Capsicum – 2 tbsp finely chopped
-Green chilli-1 finely chopped
-Ginger-1 teaspoon grated
– Coriander leaves – 2 tablespoons finely chopped
-Salt -as per taste
-Baking soda – half teaspoon
-Water – as per requirement
-Oil as per requirement
How to prepare appe batter
-To make appe, first take a clean vessel. Add rice flour, semolina and curd in it. Now add water little by little and mix it well. Keep in mind that the batter should neither be too thin nor too thick. Cover it and leave it for about 10 to 15 minutes so that the semolina becomes slightly soft.
-Now add finely chopped onion, grated carrot, capsicum, green chilli, ginger and coriander leaves to this batter. Mix everything well so that the vegetables are spread evenly in every part. Finally add salt and baking soda and mix gently. The batter is now ready to make appe.
Easy method of making appe
-Now place the appe pan on the gas and let it get slightly heated. Apply a little oil in each mold so that the appe does not stick. Now pour the prepared batter into the molds with the help of a spoon. Keep the gas flame low to medium and cover the pan.
-After about 2 to 3 minutes, when the bottom side becomes light golden, turn the appe. Now cover and cook the other side also. When the appe is cooked well from both the sides and starts appearing slightly crunchy, take them out from the pan.
-Prepare all the appas in the same manner. Hot rice flour appe tastes delicious with coconut chutney, tomato chutney or green chutney.
Tips to make tasty
-If making for children then you can reduce green chillies.
-You can also add sweet corn or finely chopped cabbage to it.
-If you want softer appe then you can add a little more curd.
-If you don’t have an appe pan, you can also make them like small pancakes in a non-stick pan.
