Winter Health Care Tips: Winter season has arrived. Till now the people who were saying that when will it get cold, are now saying that oh my god, it is so cold. As beautiful as the winter season is, it can also prove to be dangerous for your health. We are saying this because people often reduce water drinking in cold weather. Everyone knows how important water is for our body. But due to laziness and feeling less thirsty in winter, people stop drinking water. But, do you know how dangerous drinking less water can be for your body. Even if you do not feel thirsty, the body needs water for internal cleanliness even in winter. Let us know what is the reason for feeling less thirsty and how ‘thermal dehydration’ harms your brain and skin.
As much as the cold weather is pleasant, it can also be equally challenging for health. The biggest danger in this season comes in the form of dehydration i.e. lack of water in the body. During summer the body expels water through sweat, due to which we feel intense thirst and we drink enough water. On the contrary, as the temperature falls, the body’s ability to feel thirst reduces. According to experts, not feeling thirsty is not a sign that the body does not need water, rather it is the result of a complex internal process of the body.
In cold, the blood cells of the body shrink, so that the internal heat of the body can be saved. When these nerves shrink, blood flow to the part of the brain that controls thirst changes. In this condition, the thirst center of the brain is not able to accurately assess the actual lack of water in the body. This condition is scientifically called ‘thermal dehydration’. This is the reason that despite not feeling thirsty, the body is internally struggling with lack of water.
Lack of water in winter is not limited to just not feeling thirsty. Due to low level of moisture in the air, when we breathe, the hot air inside the body comes out in the form of vapor. This is called ‘respiratory fluid loss’, which causes continuous loss of water through the lungs. Apart from this, the micro sweat that occurs under woolen and heavy clothes also dries immediately in dry air, due to which we do not feel the loss of water from our skin. Heaters and blowers running in offices and homes absorb moisture from the air and make the throat, nose and skin more dry.

Symptoms of lack of water in the body often manifest as fatigue and lack of energy. If you are experiencing frequent headaches, dark yellow urine, constipation, chapped lips or extremely dry skin, these are clear signs of dehydration. Prolonged lack of water slows down the metabolism and weakens the immune system. Not only this, lack of water can also slow down brain function and give rise to serious kidney-related problems in future.
Maintaining water balance in the body during winter is very simple, provided some habits are included in the lifestyle. Starting the day with a glass of lukewarm water activates the digestive system. To make drinking water a part of the daily routine, an alarm can be set every 90 minutes or a water bottle can always be kept in front of the eyes. Apart from this, the amount of liquids like soup, orange, grapes and seasonal vegetables should be increased in the diet. It is also important to drink water before consuming caffeinated beverages like tea or coffee, so that the body’s water balance is maintained.
During cold weather, people automatically start feeling less thirsty, due to which people have to face lack of water in the body. People save a lot by drinking water during cold weather. If this continues for a long time, then many diseases take up residence in the body. There are many reasons for feeling less thirsty in winter. However, you are not doing this yourself. Due to changes in the body in cold, our brain makes us feel that the body does not demand water. Due to this, people automatically stop drinking water in cold.
According to many studies, thirst reduces by 40 percent in cold. Cold wind is also a reason for feeling less thirsty. When a person inhales cold air, he exhales hot air from the body. This is also the main reason for lack of water in the body. People consume tea and coffee in winter. Consuming it provides relief from cold for 2 minutes, but gradually the body becomes dehydrated.
