He told that one should avoid washing hair too often in winter. Using mild shampoo twice a week is sufficient. Instead of chemical based shampoo, it is better to use herbal or homemade shampoo, which maintains the natural moisture of the hair.

Expert Rizwana Parveen of Palamu district said that homemade hair masks help in nourishing the hair. Applying a mixture of curd and honey on hair removes dryness. Whereas egg and olive oil mask makes hair soft and shiny. Using it twice a month is beneficial.
He said that going out with wet hair in winter can be harmful. Due to this the hair becomes weak and starts breaking. After washing your hair, dry it gently with a towel and use hair dryer sparingly.
He also told that dandruff i.e. dandruff is a common hair problem in winter, which causes itching, hair fall and scalp irritation. Curd and onion juice is considered an effective home remedy to reduce dandruff. The probiotic elements present in curd moisturize the scalp and help reduce fungal infections, while the sulfur element present in onion juice increases blood circulation in the scalp and helps in eliminating the germs that cause dandruff.
He told that mix one spoon onion juice in two spoons of fresh curd and apply this mixture gently on the scalp. After about 20-30 minutes, wash hair with mild shampoo. By adopting this remedy once a week, dandruff starts reducing gradually and the scalp remains healthy. Regular use strengthens hair and also provides relief from itching problem.
He further said that diet plays a major role in hair health. Consume green vegetables, fruits, dry fruits and enough water in winter. Amla, jaggery and sesame help in giving strength and shine to the hair. Along with this, washing hair with neem water is beneficial to avoid the problem of dandruff. Applying aloe vera gel on the scalp reduces itching and dryness.
