Winter has started showing its full colors across North and Central India. According to the latest forecast of the Meteorological Department, the weather pattern will remain changed in the coming days in many parts of the country. Especially in North India and hilly states, the effect of rain, snowfall, cold and fog will be seen. There is a possibility of light to moderate rain and snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh during the next three days. There may be rain and snowfall in some areas in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand also.
According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), a snow storm with heavy snowfall is expected at isolated places in the higher reaches of Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh and north-eastern Himachal Pradesh in the next 24 hours. During this time, the wind speed can reach 50-60 kilometers per hour, which can go up to 70 kilometers per hour in gusts. Visibility may drop below 400 meters due to snowfall, which will affect travel and daily life. A storm alert with thunder and lightning has been issued in Himachal Pradesh on 22 December.
How will the weather be in Delhi?
The effect of cold and fog is likely to increase further in the coming days in the capital Delhi. According to the Meteorological Department, cold day conditions may arise in Delhi, where coolness will remain even during the day. There is a possibility of dense fog in the morning and late night, which may reduce visibility and affect road and rail traffic. There will not be much change in the minimum temperature for the next two days, but after this it may drop by 3 to 5 degrees Celsius. People have been advised to be alert in the morning and evening and be careful while travelling.
How much will the cold increase now?
Talking about the minimum temperature forecast, there will be no major change in North-West India for the next two days, but after that there is a possibility of a drop of 3-5 degrees Celsius in the next three days. In Uttar Pradesh, the minimum temperature may increase by 2-3 degrees in the next three days, but after that it will fall by 3-5 degrees in four days. The temperature in eastern India will remain stable for the next three days, then there will be a drop of 2-3 degrees in four days. There will be no significant change in the minimum temperature for the next seven days in the rest of the country.
Alert regarding fog also
A serious warning has also been issued regarding dense fog and cold wave. There will be dense to very dense fog in eastern Uttar Pradesh during night and morning hours till 23rd December. There is an alert of dense fog in Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh from 25 to 28 December and in Western Uttar Pradesh from 26 to 28 December. There will be dense fog at different places in these states till 22 December and from 24 to 28 December. There is a possibility of dense fog in isolated or some parts in Bihar till 24th December and in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand till 26th December. Dense fog may occur at isolated places in North-East India till 24th December morning, in North Rajasthan, West Bengal and Sikkim till 22nd December, in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and Odisha till 23rd December.
Cold day from Punjab to Bihar
Talking about cold wave, cold day conditions can be seen at different places in Bihar, Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand on 22 December, and at different places in Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh, Bihar and Uttar Pradesh on 22 and 23 December. Along with this, there is a possibility of lightning along with thunder at different places in Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad. Cold wave will prevail in North Interior Karnataka and Telangana, while cold day conditions will prevail in Bihar, Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi, Punjab and Uttar Pradesh.
It is clear from these warnings of the Meteorological Department that the severity of winter is going to increase in North India. Travelers and farmers have been advised to remain alert. Dense fog may affect road and rail traffic, while snowfall in higher reaches could lead to road closures.
