If you are cultivating wheat, mustard, barley, gram or vegetables in this Rabi season, then it is very important to be alert to protect the crops from cold wave and frost. States like Jharkhand and Bihar are in the grip of fog and cold wave. In such a situation, agricultural scientists of Deoghar have given important advice to the farmers regarding crop protection. Dr. Rajan Ojha, a senior agricultural scientist posted at Deoghar Agricultural Science Center, told Local 18 that according to scientists, in case of frost, the temperature drops rapidly, due to which the growth of plants stops and grains, earrings and fruits are directly affected.
Do this remedy for wheat crop
Advice has been given to farmers cultivating wheat. If there is a possibility of cold wave or frost, spray 0.1 percent solution of sulfuric acid or dimethyl sulfoxide on wheat leaves in the afternoon. For this, 1 ml of medicine should be mixed in per liter of water and sprayed at the rate of 100 to 125 liters of solution per bigha. This prevents adverse effects on plant growth and earrings. Similarly, in mustard crop, the effect of frost is visible in the form of shrinkage and bursting of grains.
Spray sulfoxide
According to agricultural scientists, when the minimum temperature reaches 4 degrees Celsius. If cold wind blows from the north and the sky is clear, then 0.1 percent sulfur or dimethyl sulfoxide should be sprayed on the dry leaves of the crop in the afternoon. This should be repeated throughout the expected period of frost. Apart from this, as an alternative measure, light irrigation of the field before frost is also beneficial, because moist soil retains heat for a long time.
Follow this advice for kitchen garden
Whereas in the kitchen garden, the growth of vegetables like tomato, brinjal, cabbage stops due to frost and cold wave. To protect the vegetables grown in the kitchen garden from frost, straw or mulching should be done near the plants, so that the plants remain warm.
Follow this advice for potatoes
Frost has the greatest impact on the potato crop. For this, zinc should be used before sowing. If it is not possible at the time of sowing, then spray zinc after irrigation. By adopting these measures, farmers can protect their Rabi crops from frost and cold wave.
