Chilli Farming: Chilli cultivation is a highly profitable crop. But in chilli cultivation, farmers often have to face problems regarding improved quality nurseries. The Horticulture Department is providing advanced quality nurseries to the farmers through the seedling unit at the rate of one rupee. In the seedling unit, the saplings are prepared by the department using hi-tech method.
Apart from chilli, nursery of cabbage and tomato is also prepared in the nursery of Horticulture Department located at Doga Ghat. Apart from this, different fruits and flowering plants are also available here. Farmers can produce good production by cultivating plants prepared from seedling units. There is less incidence of diseases in these plants.
Local 18 team spoke to Rural Horticulture Extension Officer Megha Mishra. Megha Mishra told that in the seedling unit, saplings are prepared by the department to give to the farmers. Apart from this, the objective of the seedling unit is to take orders from the farmers and prepare improved varieties of plants as per their demand. Here, chilli plants are prepared and given to the farmers for one rupee. For this, the farmers have to bring the seeds themselves. In the seedling unit, demanded plants like tomato, brinjal and chilli are prepared. Apart from this, bitter gourd and bottle gourd plants are also prepared. Here the saplings are prepared under automation and controlled conditions. The plants are given timely fertilizer and water, due to which the plants grow well in a controlled environment and the success rate is 95 to 100 percent.
use of cocopeat
Cocopeat is used as media for plant preparation. Cocopeat is kept soaked in water overnight. After this, seed sowing is done through a machine, in which each seed is put through the machine. Then water is added to it and covered. They are kept in a germination chamber with a temperature of 28 degrees Celsius for about five days. When the plants start sprouting, they are taken to the hardening chamber. When the plant turns 25 days old and the stem becomes thick, it leaves the tray. In this stage the plant is ready for transplantation. Tomato, chilli and brinjal plants are ready to be planted in the field in 25 days.
After planting in the field, diseases may be seen due to soil or weather. For this, suggestions are given to farmers from time to time. If any farmer wants to get the sapling prepared, he can come to the nursery located at Doga Ghat or contact the Rural Horticulture Extension Officer of his block.
