Munger News: In Munger, in the name of updating the PPO book by showing the fear of pension being stopped, cyber criminals defrauded two retired railway employees of a total amount of Rs 23 lakh 43 thousand. Both the railwaymen are in shock after losing their life savings after retirement. The victims have lodged a complaint in the cyber police station and have requested for the amount to be returned.
Munger: A case of cheating of two retired employees came to light in Munger, Bihar. An old man was robbed of his entire life’s earnings by thugs. In the name of updating his Pension Payment Order (PPO) book, information related to his UPI was taken. After that, several OTPs were taken one after the other and an amount of Rs 23 lakh 43 thousand was withdrawn from the account. Surprisingly, the bank did not seize the account even on such a big online transaction. Another retired employee was also cheated. Police registered the case.
The matter is of Jamalpur. Where railway worker Manoj Kumar retired on 30 August 2025. On December 18, the PPO form was sent to his WhatsApp. After this, calling himself a railway officer, it was said that if the form is not updated, the pension will be stopped. Falling into the trap of swindlers, Manoj Kumar shared information related to UPI. By obtaining the OTP received on his mobile, the fraudsters withdrew Rs 22 lakh 55 thousand from his SBI account through 11 transactions in a single day. Similarly, swindlers stole Rs 88,196 from the account of another retired railway employee Gajendra Sah.
The bank did not ban transactions
Now the victims have appealed to the SP for justice. The biggest question is how the complete information of recently retired employees is reaching the cyber thugs. If sources are to be believed, departmental data is being leaked through collusion at many levels, taking advantage of which fraudsters are threatening to stop the pension. It is also surprising that despite repeated transactions of Rs 4.99 lakh in a single day, there was no stop at the bank level.
Police engaged in investigation
Munger SP Syed Imran Masood said that these days cyber thugs are cheating retired railway workers by giving them the fear of stoppage of pension. Cyber police station is investigating after registering an FIR based on the statement of the victims. He appealed to the retired employees to use only departmental channels for any information. Ignore the messages coming on WhatsApp or phone and do not share any information related to bank or UPI with anyone. The increasing cases of cyber fraud have once again highlighted the need for caution. If you receive any call or message related to pension, bank or UPI, first check its authenticity, so that your hard-earned money remains safe.
