Australian spinner Nathan Lyon will miss the final day of the third Ashes Test and is a doubt for the rest of the series due to a hamstring injury.
Lyon, 38, who became Australia’s second-highest Test wicket-taker during the Adelaide Test, was injured while diving on the field on the morning of the fifth day.
He grabbed his right hamstring and left the field immediately.
Lyon took three wickets on the fourth afternoon to put Australia on the verge of a victory that will confirm the series victory.
However, he was run out of ground before his injury on the fifth day as England showed admirable fight.
There are just five days until the fourth Test begins in Melbourne on December 26 (23:30 GMT, December 25), leaving Lyon with little time to recover. The final test in Sydney will take place five days after the end of the fourth.
Lyon, one of the greatest spinners of all time, suffered a calf injury during the second Test of the 2023 Ashes, which was a major factor in England’s recovery and leveling the series 2-2.
He bowled just two overs in the first Test of this series and later said he felt “dirty” after being left out of the second in Brisbane.
