Chitrakoot Ground Report: The effects of winter have started appearing on rail travel also. Many trains are running late by hours. Its clear effect can be seen in Chitrakoot also. Here since this morning the blanket of fog has been so thick that even a few meters away was not clearly visible. Out of hundreds of trains passing through Manikpur station, more than a dozen are running late by several hours. Local 18 reached Manikpur station and inquired about the condition of the people shivering from the cold.

In many districts of UP, extremely dense fog has completely derailed normal life as well as the transport system. The religious city Chitrakoot also remained untouched by this. Here since this morning the blanket of fog has been so thick that nothing was visible at a distance of a few meters. The situation on the roads of Chitrakoot appeared as if the vehicles were not moving but crawling. Fog is also affecting rail traffic. Out of hundreds of trains passing through Manikpur, the main railway station of Chitrakoot, more than a dozen are running late by several hours.

When Local 18 reached Manikpur railway station and took stock of the situation, the crowd of passengers, waiting and people struggling with the cold were clearly visible at the station. The train originating from Manikpur and going from Ambedkar Nagar to Prayagraj was running late by about 8 hours 30 minutes. UP Sampark Kranti Express was running late by 5 hours, Kanpur-Chitrakoot Intercity by about one and a half hours, Mumbai-Jaynagar Pawan Express by 6 hours, Anand Vihar-Rewa Express by 6 hours 30 minutes, Udhna-Dhanbad Express by 4 hours 30 minutes, Gorakhpur-LTT Kashi Express by 2.5 hours and Itarsi-Prayagraj Chhivki Express by about 4 hours.

While waiting for trains, passengers were seen either trying to get relief from the cold near the bonfire burning in the station premises or sitting huddled in the waiting hall. Many passengers said that there are problems due to cold and fog, but the only option is to wait under compulsion. Passengers traveling from Manikpur towards Mumbai and Satna said that they were to go to Satna by Anand Vihar-Rewa Express, but due to the train being late by about six and a half hours, they are now waiting for some other train. Passengers going to Mumbai and Prayagraj say that they have been at the station since morning, but due to fog the trains are continuously getting late.
