Mumbai Underworld: In ‘Black Scorpion: To Hell and Back’, Shyam Kishore Garikapati has revealed his experiences and secrets of the underworld with criminals like Dawood Ibrahim, Chhota Rajan, Karim Lala. Garikapati spent more than 12 years in jail and was one of the first accused to face trial under TADA.

Shyam Kishore Garikapati, an old associate of mafia don Dawood Ibrahim and who knows the world of organized crime of Mumbai closely, has challenged many assumptions related to the underworld of the city and revealed many secrets in his new book. Written and self-published by three journalists Vijay Shekhar, Raju Santhanam and Kelvin Joshua, ‘Black Scorpion: To Hell and Back’ is a true crime story based on the life and experiences of Garikapati. In the underworld, Garikapati was known as ‘Black Scorpion’.
Set against the backdrop of Mumbai during the 1980s and 1990s, the book revisits an era filled with gang wars, shifting loyalties and gruesome murders involving notorious criminals like Dawood Ibrahim, Chhota Rajan, Karim Lala, Varadarajan Mudaliar and Arun Gawli. The book tells an insider’s story based on Garikapati’s personal experiences, court documents, and more than 100 hours of interviews recorded by the authors.
Garikapati spent more than 12 years in jail and was one of the first accused to face trial under TADA. In this book, there are many shocking revelations like the inside talks of Dawood Ibrahim’s gang, the meeting called by Dawood for reconciliation between the feuding groups, the failed attempt to murder Chhota Rajan, the secret tapes revealing the reason for the rift between Dawood and Rajan and the attack on JJ Hospital to avenge the murder of Dawood’s brother-in-law, due to which Garikapati had to go to jail. Garikapati witnessed the murders of many of his close friends and colleagues and has told his story through this book.
