Chandauli: Pulse polio campaign is going on in full swing in the district these days. The first phase of the campaign has started from Mughalsarai area, where a large crowd of children is being seen at the polio booths. Since morning, parents have been reaching the booths with their little children in their lap and they are being given two drops of life. Due to the activeness and awareness campaign of the health department, the enthusiasm among the people is clearly visible.
Campaign started from Mughalsarai
Pulse polio campaign has been started from Mughalsarai area. Health workers have been deployed since morning at all the designated polio booths including the Women’s Hospital. Polio drops are being administered systematically to the children reaching the booths. Parents are also becoming aware of this campaign and they are voluntarily bringing their children for vaccination.
Door to door awareness became the key to success
The door to door awareness campaign launched a week ago has proved to be very important for the success of this campaign. In every Gram Sabha and urban areas of the district, ANM and Asha workers went door to door and told people about the importance of Pulse Polio campaign. He explained how important timely vaccination is to keep children safe from serious diseases like polio. The result of this continuous effort is that now people themselves are coming forward and participating in the campaign.
No case of polio in the district till now
Dr. Rajesh Agaria, pediatrician of Mughalsarai Women’s Hospital, said that pulse polio campaign is being run in a total of 33 districts of the state including Chandauli. He said that every day a large number of children are reaching hospitals and booths to take polio doses. It is a matter of relief that at present no active case of polio has been reported in Chandauli district, which shows the success of this campaign so far.
There remains a risk of infection from neighboring countries
Dr. Rajesh Agaria said that although there is no case of polio in the district at present, cases of polio have been reported in neighboring countries Bangladesh and Pakistan. Given the large population and movement from border areas, there remains a possibility of infection. For this reason, the government is running pulse polio campaigns from time to time, taking utmost care, so that the disease can be prevented from re-emerging.
Medicine is necessary for children below five years of age
The Health Department has appealed to the parents not to be careless in any way. Polio vaccination must be given to all children under five years of age, even if the child is already healthy. This vaccination helps in protecting children from lifelong disability.
There was enthusiasm among the townspeople
There is a lot of enthusiasm among the city residents regarding the Pulse Polio campaign. People are not only bringing their children to the booths, but are also inspiring others to do the same. The Health Department hopes that with the successful organization of this campaign, another strong step will be taken towards keeping Chandauli district polio free.
