Nitish Kumar Hijab Row: Bihar Governor Arif Mohammad Khan has asked a question on the issue of that viral video, which has heated up the political and social debate of Bihar. The Governor appealed not to make the burqa issue related to Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar an unnecessary controversy.
Patna. “How can a matter between father and daughter become a dispute?” Bihar Governor Arif Mohammad Khan, reacting to the hijab controversy in Patna, said that this incident should be seen as a father-daughter relationship and not as a political dispute. He clarified that this should not have happened, she is a daughter and it is wrong to call a father-daughter matter a dispute. The Governor said that he is not defending the Chief Minister, but he is sad that such a big controversy is being created over this incident. Let us tell you that a video of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is going viral on social media, in which he is seen removing the hijab of a Muslim female doctor during a government program in Patna. This incident took place recently at the appointment letter distribution ceremony on 15th December, where the woman was collecting her joining letter.
It is being told that Nitish Kumar allegedly pulled down the hijab to see the woman’s face, due to which the woman looked uncomfortable. In the video, Deputy CM Samrat Chaudhary was seen trying to stop him. This incident has created political and social controversy, with the opposition calling it a ‘vile act’ and raising questions on Nitish’s mental condition. But, Governor Arif Mohammad Khan has raised questions on the very question being raised regarding the attitude of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.
Governor’s emotional statement
Governor Arif Mohammad Khan said, “How can a father-daughter issue become a dispute? It should not happen, it is wrong. She is like a daughter. I am not defending the Chief Minister, but does that person treat everyone like his daughter? This should not happen. I feel sad that this is being called a dispute.” Linking it to the father-daughter relationship, the Governor appealed not to create a controversy, but at the same time termed the incident wrong.
Opposition’s sharp reaction
On the other hand, opposition parties are continuously criticizing Nitish Kumar. Women’s rights activist Brinda Adige said that removing hijab is an attack on women’s dignity, autonomy and identity, it cannot be called empowerment. At the same time, the incident sparked debate on social media, where some called it cultural insensitivity while some considered Nitish’s intention as positive. #NitishHijabRow is trending on social media.
