The price of India’s most expensive vegetable, hop shoots, ranges from Rs 85 thousand to Rs 1 lakh/kg. This rare vegetable growing in Bihar and Himachal is used in both medicine and food. Another expensive vegetable, Gucchi mushroom, is also sold for 30 to 40 thousand rupees per kg, which is found naturally in the mountains.

The price of hop shoots surprises ordinary people. It is sold in India for around Rs 85 thousand to Rs 1 lakh per kg. People buy jewellery, mobile or expensive things at this price but this vegetable is even more expensive than that.
This vegetable is grown in a few selected areas of the country. In India, it is mainly found in Aurangabad district of Bihar and Kinnaur area of Himachal Pradesh. The mountainous, cold climate and soil is considered best for this crop.

Cultivation of hop shoots is very difficult. It does not grow in straight rows like ordinary vegetables. Farmers identify each plant separately and pluck it by hand. Due to so much hard work and time, its price skyrockets.
