If you are fond of roses and have planted its plants at home, but flowers are not blooming then there is no need to worry. We are going to tell you such a use of alum which will bring life to the plant and it will always be laden with flowers in every season.
Winter season is considered most favorable for rose plants. If the plants are taken proper care of in this season, the rose plant can be filled with flowers. Many times people complain that the plant remains green but it does not produce flowers. In such a situation, a little wisdom and home remedies can bring life to the rose.
Expert Dr DS Srivastava told Local18 that the blooming of roses reduces in cold weather. In this season, alum available for Rs 5 to 10 can prove to be very beneficial for rose plants. Aluminum and potassium sulphate present in alum improve the growth of plants. Along with strengthening the plant, it also works as an insecticide.
He said that alum helps in eliminating harmful insects and fungus present in the soil. When the roots of the plant remain healthy, it directly affects the flowers. Due to this, more numbers and bigger size flowers bloom in the rose plant.

Further said that to use alum, take a bowl or mug of water. Grind alum or add it into small pieces and mix it well with a spoon, so that a light solution is prepared. Pour this water directly into the roots of the plant.
A day before applying alum water, do light hoeing of the soil and let the soil dry a little. Due to this, the effect of alum is better. If it is not possible to make a solution, then very small pieces of alum can be added directly to the soil, but keep the quantity very less.
He further said that the rose plant needs at least 5–6 hours of sunlight daily. Sunlight is mild in winter, so keep the plant in a place where it gets plenty of sunlight. At the same time, avoid giving excessive water during cold weather. Water only when the soil seems dry on top.
Be sure to prune dry and weak branches at the beginning of winter. Due to this, new branches emerge and more flowers grow on them. Also, applying mustard cake, vermicompost or rotten cow dung manure once in 15–20 days is beneficial for roses.
Excessive use of alum can be harmful. It is sufficient to give alum water only once a month. Using it in excess quantity can spoil the quality of the soil. With proper sunlight, balanced watering, regular fertilizer and limited use of alum, the rose plant can be laden with flowers in winter.
