Google has added a new feature to its Gemini app, which now makes it easier to find out whether a video has been created or edited with Google’s AI tools. This feature is part of Google’s effort to make online content more transparent, so that users can understand whether the video they are watching is real or created by AI.
How does the new AI video recognition feature work in the Gemini app? It is quite easy to use this feature. All the user has to do is upload a video to the Gemini app and then ask questions, like-
‘Is this video made with Google AI?’
After this, Gemini scans that video and looks for a special digital mark present in it, which is called SynthID. SynthID is a type of digital watermark, which is hidden in the content created by Google’s AI tools. It is not visible or audible to humans, but tools like Gemini can detect it.
Checking both video and audio
Gemini checks not only the images of the video but also its audio. After the scan is complete, the app provides clear and detailed information to the user.
It doesn’t just give a ‘yes’ or ‘no’ answer, but also tells us: where the AI-generated part is in the video – whether it’s audio or visual, at what time stamp the AI was used.
For example, Gemini can tell that the images in a video are real, but part of the audio is generated by Google AI.
Why is this feature important for users?
Nowadays, AI videos, deepfakes and fake clips are spreading rapidly on social media. Sometimes it becomes difficult to understand whether the video is real or made by AI. Google says that the purpose of this feature is to provide more trust and clear information to the users, so that they can understand the truth of the content even without technical knowledge.
It is important to know this
- The uploaded video should not be larger than 100MB.
- The video length should not exceed 90 seconds.
- Within these limits, you can also check social media, WhatsApp or your own videos.
Available worldwide
Google has also confirmed that the Gemini app’s image and video verification features are now available in all countries and languages that Gemini supports.
