Winter Special Moong Bada: A small breakfast shop located at Korer Chowk in Charama city of Chhattisgarh has today become a symbol of taste, simplicity and hard work. In fact, Dewangan Hotel, run by Lesh Kumar Dewangan, resident of Dargahan Charama, is not just a place to have breakfast for the local people, but is a living example of self-reliance and family tradition. Despite limited resources, this breakfast center has remained the choice of customers continuously for the last 13 years.
Director Lesh Kumar Dewangan tells that this breakfast center was started by his father about 13 years ago. In the initial phase it was a small shop, where only a few snacks were prepared. With time the trust of customers increased and for the last four years Lesh Kumar himself has been running this shop. Lesh Kumar has studied till graduation, but he never turned towards a job. He believes that self-respect, freedom and satisfaction are found in doing one’s own work.
Demand for Moong Bada in winter
Dewangan Hotel offers traditional breakfasts like Moong Bada, Samosa, Bhajiya and Mirchi Bhajiya, but the Moong Bada here is the most famous. These round-shaped moongs become the first choice of people especially during the winter season. The taste of hot moong vada along with curry and spicy tomato-chilli chutney brings customers here again and again. Lesh Kumar says that the demand for moong bada increases even more in winter.
This breakfast center is open daily from 9 am to 5 pm. Here breakfast plate is available for only Rs 20, in which 6 pieces of Moong Bada are served to the customers. Affordable prices and taste are the biggest strengths of this shop. According to Lesh Kumar, on an average 200 plates of Moong Bade are sold every day. Apart from this, there is good consumption of samosas, which leads to additional sales of about Rs 1500. After calculating the total sales and expenses of the day, Dewangan Hotel makes a daily profit of around Rs 5000. This income is not only supporting their family, but is also becoming an inspiration for the local youth that starting from a small level, a good business can be built on the basis of hard work and quality. Today, this breakfast center located at Korer Chowk of Charama is truly telling the story of taste and self-reliance.
