Haryana: During the winter session of Haryana Assembly, there was a fierce debate on Vande Mataram and during this debate the matter even reached a scuffle. Taking cognizance of this, the Speaker expelled 10 Congress MLAs from the House. Let us inform that during the debate held on Friday, Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini gave an important statement in the House and said that even though it is not as per the tradition, but considering the seriousness of the topic, it was necessary to put the point before the beginning of the discussion.
The Chief Minister said that just a day before, Bhupendra Singh Hooda was welcomed in the House as the Leader of Opposition. At the end of his statement, Hooda had expressed the expectation that the voice of the opposition would not be suppressed, to which the government immediately agreed. The Chief Minister said that through this emotional dialogue, a positive message had been sent to the minds of the people of Haryana about the constructive future of the House, but it is regrettable that within two hours the opposition came with a no-confidence motion.
No-confidence motion accepted by the Speaker
Referring to the signatures on the no-confidence motion, the Chief Minister said that it was not signed by Leader of Opposition Bhupendra Singh Hooda. Either they were not aware of this proposal or despite knowing about it they allowed it to come. He said that after the no-confidence motion is accepted by the Speaker, the government is fully ready for discussion.
Uproar in the House on Vande Mataram
During the session, there was a heated debate in the House regarding Vande Mataram. The Chief Minister said that Vande Mataram is a sacred mantra and it should not be linked with other issues. Leader of Opposition Bhupendra Singh Hooda also said that there should be no politics on Vande Mataram. There was an uproar in the House when Congress MLA Aditya Surjewala raised the issues of pollution and women while referencing the lines of Vande Mataram. Congress MLAs came into the well, after which the Speaker nominated 10 Congress MLAs and directed them to leave the House.
Chief Minister Naib Singh Saini said that it is a historical fact that Jawaharlal Nehru had supported the Muslim League in protesting against Vande Mataram and these facts cannot be hidden. Responding to the discussion on Vande Mataram, the Chief Minister said that this mantra has been giving new energy to the country during the freedom movement. It is a privilege for this House to remember Vande Mataram and it shows the commitment of the House towards the nation.
Reminiscence of the ascetic journey to freedom
He said that completion of 150 years of Vande Mataram is a matter of pride for all of us. This is not just a song, but a remembrance of India’s ascetic journey to independence, which awakened the spirit of sacrifice, renunciation and penance in the hearts of crores of Indians. The Chief Minister said that Vande Mataram, composed by Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay in 1875, became the soul of the Swadeshi movement and the British government considered it a dangerous nationalistic system. On 15 August 1947, on the request of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Pandit Omkar Nath Thakur emotionalized the entire nation by singing Vande Mataram from All India Radio.
He also said that if there was no spirit of Vande Mataram, the public representatives would not have been sitting in this House today. Women, youth and farmers endured torture, went to jail and even faced death with this mantra. Referring to the contribution of Haryana in the freedom struggle, the Chief Minister said that in the revolution of 1857, farmers and soldiers of Jhajjar, Rohtak and Ambala challenged the British rule. The soil of Haryana produces not only food but also bravery.
Not a song, but a life mantra
He said that the Central and Haryana governments have decided to celebrate the glory song of Vande Mataram for a year, which was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on November 7. At the end of his speech, the Chief Minister called upon the House to adopt Vande Mataram not just as a song but as a life mantra and its spirit should be implemented. He thanked the House for giving him the opportunity to express his views on this historical topic.
