Siwan: Inter examinations are starting in Bihar from 3rd February. The results of intermediate examination decide the future of the students. In such a situation, nervousness, tension and pressure are naturally seen in the minds of students during examinations. When it comes to a subject like mathematics, the tension of students increases a bit. However, if preparation is done with the right strategy, regular practice and positive thinking then this challenge is no longer difficult. Academics believe that the time just before the examination is best suited for revision rather than studying new topics. So, about how to prepare for the Mathematics paper in the exam and get good marks, we have taken information from Dr. Manish Pandey, who has 15 years of experience in the field of education, especially in the subject of Mathematics.
Dr. Manish Pandey says that students should first pay special attention to NCERT books. He told that most of the questions asked in board exams are based on NCERT. In such a situation, in-depth study and frequent revision of each chapter, examples and practice questions of the book is very important. Unless the basic concepts are strong, students will not be able to solve any type of question with confidence.
According to Dr. Pandey, solving question papers of last ten years proves to be very beneficial to get good marks in Mathematics. Practicing old question papers helps students to understand what kind of questions are asked in the exam, how many marks questions come from which chapter and what is the level of question paper. This practice not only increases the understanding of the subject but also strengthens the ability of time management, which plays a very important role during the examination.
Talking about a common problem of middle level students, Dr. Manish Pandey said that often students say that they know the answer, but during the examination they get entangled in the formula or are not able to reach the correct solution. The main reason for this is excessive pressure, nervousness and sometimes overconfidence. In a hurry, students either forget the formula or choose the wrong formula. He clarified that there is absolutely no need for such students to be disappointed.
Dr. Pandey advised that students should revise the formulas daily as per the pattern of previous years’ questions. Practicing the formulas regularly not only improves the speed but also improves the presentation of answer writing. Writing answers in clear, orderly and clear steps in the exam is helpful in getting good marks. In mathematics, not only the correct answer but also the correct method is equally important.
Emphasizing on the strategy to be adopted in the examination hall, he said that students should first solve only those questions which they know well. This increases confidence and marks are secured in the beginning itself. After this one should move towards difficult or time consuming questions. He also specifically said that the same patience and caution should be exercised on those questions which make one feel that “this is very easy” as on any difficult question. It has been seen many times that due to excessive self-confidence, students make mistakes in such questions.
Maintain proper time management for preparation
He described proper distribution of time during preparation as very important. Dr. Pandey said that if time management is not proper, then some questions may be missed at the end, which reduces the chances of getting good marks. Along with this, he also advised the students to take care of their mental and physical health. Adequate sleep, balanced diet and light exercise increase the ability to study. Avoiding excessive stress and maintaining positive thinking is equally important for success.
In the end, Dr. Manish Pandey appealed to the students that now that the exam time is near, they should avoid reading new chapters. Do thorough revision of what you have studied throughout the year. Mathematics is such a subject in which certain chapters give good marks as per the previous years exam pattern. After identifying such chapters, one should practice them as much as possible through old question papers. Motivating the students, he said, “There is no need to be afraid, why be afraid of what will happen? If nothing happens, it will be an experience.” He believes that self-confidence, continuous effort and hard work in the right direction are the biggest keys to success. Intermediate examination is not a matter of fear, rather it is a golden opportunity to prove the knowledge and hard work of the students.
