Araria: Wheat sowing season has started in Araria district of Bihar. This time, the demand for high-yield varieties instead of traditional varieties is increasing rapidly among farmers. According to agricultural experts, by using modern technology and new varieties, farmers can increase their yield by 20 to 30 percent. Besides, these new varieties also reduce the cost, because they are prepared in less water and are also disease-resistant.
The new variety has many benefits
Suresh Yadav, a farmer from Araria district, told Local 18 that now is the time to move ahead from traditional farming. New varieties are not only increasing production but also maintaining the fertility of the soil. If farmers adopt new technology then earning double the profit at less cost is no longer a difficult task.
Most preferred and trusted variety
According to Suresh Kumar, Shriram 303 wheat seeds are the most popular. Its specialty is that it is disease-resistant and gives a production of about 16 to 20 quintals per acre. The grains of this wheat are golden, thick and strong. The wheat crop is ready in just 120 days. He told that wheat fields have to be irrigated 3-4 times. Along with this, Suresh Kumar also uses many types of chemical fertilizers. He told that we cultivate wheat on about 3 acres of land.
cost per acre of land
Suresh Kumar told that about 15-20 thousand rupees are spent on per acre of land and the profit is about 40-45 thousand rupees. According to Suresh Kumar, wheat cultivation on 3 acres of land earns about Rs 1.5 lakh in just 120 days of the season. Along with this, he also cultivates maize on 8 acres of land. He earns about Rs 9 lakh in a year by mixing maize and wheat and paddy.
Adopt these modern techniques in farming
Farmers must treat seeds before sowing, so that they can get protection from insects and fungi. Apart from this, adopting drip or sprinkler irrigation system saves water and the moisture of the soil also remains balanced. It is important to add balanced amounts of nitrogen, phosphorus and potash to the soil so that the crop remains healthy. Instead of burning the residues after harvesting, converting them into organic manure also maintains the fertility of the soil.
Training of new technologies to farmers
Suresh Kumar said that the Agriculture Department and Krishi Vigyan Kendra are continuously training farmers in new technologies. Experts say that now farmers are gradually moving towards high-yield and disease-resistant varieties. This will not only increase the production but will also make farming sustainable and profitable. He said that we are continuously given training by the Agriculture Department.
