Lahi gets applied on the flowers, stalks and soft parts of mustard and sucks the juice of the plants, due to which the plants become weak and the grains are not able to develop properly. This has a direct impact on the yield. But prevention is possible. One can get relief from this by spraying a special medicine.
Palamau The main objective of the central and state governments is to promote oilseed crops, so that dependence on foreign countries for edible oil can be reduced. At present, India has to import edible oil in large quantities, which puts additional burden on the country’s economy. Keeping this in view, the government is continuously making efforts towards becoming self-reliant in oilseed crops.
This year the mustard crop is in very good condition in Palamu district and its surrounding areas. The mustard crop has now reached the flowering stage in the farmers’ fields. This stage is very important for the crop, but at the same time the risk of attack of aphid also increases. If this insect is not taken care of in time, it can cause huge damage to the entire crop.
Lahi causes such harm
Dr. Pramod Kumar, agricultural expert of Regional Research Centre, Chianki, told Local18 that Lahi is a very weak but harmful sap-sucking insect. This insect settles on the flowers, stalks and soft parts of mustard and sucks the sap of the plants, due to which the plants become weak and the grains are not able to develop properly. This has a direct impact on the yield.
Dr. Pramod Kumar said that if farmers take a little care and take appropriate measures on time, then the outbreak of this pest can be easily avoided. He advised the farmers to regularly monitor the mustard crop during the flowering stage. As soon as aphids appear on plants, immediately adopt control measures.
Spray this medicine
To protect against Lahi, he has advised spraying of Imidachloropid 17.8 percent medicine. For this, 1 ml of medicine should be dissolved in 1 liter of water and sprayed evenly on the crop. By spraying in the right quantity and at the right time, the aphid infestation can be completely controlled and the mustard crop remains safe.
The agricultural expert said that timely pest control will not only increase production but will also increase the income of farmers. In such a situation, there is a need for farmers to become aware and adopt scientific methods, so that the country can be made self-reliant through oilseed crops.
