Before the festival, a state government of India has given good news to the people. Rs 5000 will be received from this government. For this, workers have been advised to keep their ration cards and important documents updated, so that they can get relief amount when the scheme is implemented. Earlier, this state government had given Rs 2500 in cash along with the Pongal gift package in 2021.
On the occasion of Pongal, gifts are being given to all family card holders in the ration stores of Tamil Nadu. During the AIADMK rule, Rs 2500 in cash was given along with the Pongal gift package in 2021. This is the highest cash amount given so far.
Subsequently, during the DMK rule, Rs 1000 in cash was given along with the Pongal package. But this year, instead of giving cash during the Pongal festival, brown rice, sugar and sugarcane were given. There was a lot of criticism for not giving cash along with the Pongal package.
Assembly elections are going to be held next year, hence arrangements have been made to provide the cash amount not given till now. It is being told that senior ministers have requested the officials to provide Rs 5000 to all ration card holders. However, the monthly payment for women’s rights has created a financial crisis.

For this reason, there is news that all ration card holders will be given Rs 3000 in cash along with the Pongal package. It is expected that the Pongal package will include whole sugarcane, brown rice, sugar and other grains.
In this situation, Thoothukudi District CITU Construction Workers Union (CITU) organized a statewide protest in front of the Labor Welfare Board office, demanding Rs 5,000 to be given to the construction workers along with the Pongal festival package. The protest was led by Mariyappan, district executive committee member of the union. Many construction workers participated in it and raised slogans outlining their demands.
