Odisha Kiss Student Murder Case: A shocking revelation has come to light in the murder case of 14-year-old tribal student Shiva Munda at Kalinga Institute in Bhubaneswar, Odisha. According to the police, three students had strangulated Shiva to death over a minor dispute. The accused students used to call themselves part of the ‘Joker Gang’. Eight officers, including the Additional CEO and Headmaster of the institute, have been arrested on charges of hiding this sensational crime and destroying evidence. Initially an attempt was made to call this murder an accident, but the post mortem report revealed the whole truth.
Bhubaneswar. The mystery of the death of Shiva Munda, a 14-year-old tribal student at Odisha’s prestigious Kalinga University, has been solved. This incident had shocked the entire state. Now it has become clear in the police investigation that this was not an accident, but a brutal murder by strangulation. Shiva Munda’s body was found in the Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) hostel. Police investigation has revealed that top officials of the institute tried to hide the case and destroy the evidence. Odisha Police has now arrested eight officers of the institute in this case.
‘Joker Gang’ and the controversy over a bucket
According to the Commissionerate Police of Odisha, Shiva Munda, a class 9 student, was attacked by three fellow students of his hostel on the night of December 11, 2025. Police Commissioner S. Dev Dutt Singh revealed that the accused students had formed a group in the hostel named ‘Joker Gang’, whose name was also found written on the wall of the hostel toilet.
Murdered by students belonging to ‘Joker Gang’
The reason for the incident was very minor. There was an altercation between Shiva and these three students over a bucket in the toilet. The matter escalated so much that all three together strangulated Shiva, resulting in his death on the spot. These three minors who violated the law have been presented before the Juvenile Justice Board.
Conspiracy of the institute and white collar accused
The most terrible turn in this matter was the role of the institute administration. The institute not only kept the police in the dark but also misled Shiva’s father Raghunath Munda. The family was told that Shiva had slipped in the bathroom and died of a heart attack.
The child’s body was sent home without any information.
Without informing the police, the institute sent the body to his village in Ojhar. However, when the father saw the marks on Shiva’s neck, his suspicions deepened and he demonstrated in front of the Collector’s office. The post-mortem conducted after this exposed the lies of the institute. Police have arrested 8 officers involved in this conspiracy, which include Pramod Patra Additional CEO, Rashmiranjan Nayak Headmaster, two teachers Vinay Kumar Gonchi and Pradeep Kumar Das, Senior Coordinator Ashok Kumar Malla, Hostel Officer and Supervisor.
Odisha Police has not only arrested all of them on charges of suppressing the crime, destroying evidence and threatening other students for not telling the truth, but has also registered a case under several sections of the BNS Act.
