UP’s first shipyard built on the banks of Ganga
This mini shipyard built on the banks of river Ganga in Varanasi is the first such shipyard in Uttar Pradesh. It has been started by Vinay Kumar of Mumbai. He launched this shipyard in April this year through a company named Shiv Global Marine Private Limited. Here, under Make in India, various types of boats are being manufactured along with indigenous cruise ships.
Huge demand is being received from India and abroad
Within a few months of its launch, this shipyard has received tremendous response. Vinay Kumar told that he is getting demand for cruises and boats from Bangladesh and South Asian countries. Apart from this, orders for small and big boats have also been received from states like Madhya Pradesh, Orissa, Chennai, Bihar and Manipur. All the boats are being manufactured in Varanasi only.
Work from design to final finishing
In this mini shipyard, the complete design, layout and final finishing work of cruise and boat is done. The cost of cruises and boats manufactured here ranges up to crores of rupees. With the help of modern technology and skilled craftsmen, high quality boats are being manufactured here, which meet international standards.
Easy transportation through Ganga
Vinay Kumar said that transportation from Varanasi to Bangladesh and other South Asian countries can be easily done through the river Ganga. Considering this facility, he chose Banaras for the shipyard. Due to transportation through river route, cost also reduces and time is saved.
Aluminum boats are made for defense
Along with fiber and metal, aluminum boats are also made in this shipyard. However, aluminum boats are made only on defense related orders. Recently a boat has been sent for Manipur Police. Apart from this, the design of the boat has also been prepared for Varanasi Water Police and it can be constructed soon.
Local people got employment
Local people have also got employment through this mini shipyard. Vinay Kumar said that about 90 percent of the people working here are local. Earlier the artisans making fiber votes had to go to Goa and Mumbai for work but now they are getting employment in Banaras only. Due to this the economic condition of the area is also getting strengthened.
