Khufri Series: Reliable varieties of improved potatoes
The improved strains of Khufri series for potato cultivation are becoming increasingly popular among the farmers. Among these, Khufri Lalima, Khufri Jyoti and Khufri Pokharaj are prominent. These strains grow better than normal varieties and have the ability to adapt to the climate. These varieties developed by scientists are known to give high production.
Advantages of traditional vs improved varieties
Agriculture expert Dr Pramod Kumar said that most of the farmers in Palamu region still use traditional varieties like C-One and C-Forty, which yield only 2 to 2.5 quintals per kattha. By adopting improved varieties, the yield can be 4 to 4.5 quintals per bushel. Due to this, farmers get almost double the profit and the cost of farming is also easily covered.
Clear difference in yield and profits
Higher yield obtained from improved strains directly increases the income of farmers. Due to better quality, the demand for these potatoes is high in the market, due to which they get reasonable prices. Due to more production in less area, even small farmers can earn good income. Experts believe that if farmers adopt the varieties of Khufri series, then potato cultivation can become a profitable deal for the farmers in Palamu region.
