A prominent place among these is Do Mohini Ghats located in Sonari area, where the historical confluence of two rivers can be seen. The Kharkai river flowing from Orissa and the Swarnarekha river originating from the land of Jharkhand meet here. Due to this unique confluence, this place was named Do Mohini Ghat, which is today counted among the important places of Jamshedpur.

Giving information about this place to Local 18, Vikas Srivastava, an expert and senior journalist of Jamshedpur city, said that Do Mohini Ghats are very important not only from the geographical point of view, but also from the historical and cultural point of view. He said that from here onwards both the rivers flow together and then it is known as Swarnarekha River, which later joins the Bay of Bengal.
Why did these rivers get this name?
Interesting facts also emerge regarding the name of Kharkai river. According to senior journalist Vikas Srivastava, this river passes through the industrial area. In earlier times, salinity was felt in the water here, hence it was named Kharkai. The name of Swarnarekha river is linked to the folklore of finding gold-like particles in its sand, which gave it the identity of Swarnarekha.
Important contribution of rivers in development
The confluence of these two rivers has played an important role in the development of Jamshedpur. Due to the availability of water, big industries were established here. Industries like Tata Steel got life from these rivers, due to which Jamshedpur emerged as a strong industrial city. Along with this, farming, fishing and local employment in the surrounding areas also got a boost.
