Kanwal Sibal has been one of the very few diplomats of India. Who shaped Indian foreign policy for more than four decades. He is a 1966 batch IFS officer and was the Foreign Secretary of India in 2002–03. His role as India’s ambassador to important countries like Russia, France, Egypt and Türkiye was decisive. He is the elder brother of famous lawyer and leader Kapil Sibal, but while Kapil Sibal became the vocal voice of opposition in Congress politics, Kanwal Sibal remained at the center of strategic thinking despite staying away from power.
