New Delhi. Tata Motors’ mid-size SUV Tata Sierra has created a stir in the market. This iconic SUV of the 90s has been liked so much by the people in its new avatar that it made a record as soon as the bookings opened. According to data released by Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles (TMPV), more than 70,000 people have booked this vehicle on the very first day of booking. This figure is only for confirmed bookings. Additionally, approximately 1.35 lakh potential customers have submitted their preferred ‘configuration’ (choice of color and features) for the Sierra.
Booking of Tata Sierra can be done through Tata’s official dealership or website. For this, ₹ 21,000 will have to be paid as booking amount which will be adjusted in the final price of the vehicle. In the mid-size SUV segment, Tata Sierra will compete directly with Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Toyota Hayrider and Maruti’s new Victorias. Looking at the bookings on the first day, it seems that Sierra has raised alarm bells for its rivals.
Tata Sierra Design and Features
The design of the new Sierra is muscular. It has been given a tall and strong SUV stance, which gives it a distinct identity. Talking about the interior, it has a triple-screen dashboard. It has a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen and a separate 12.3-inch display for the co-passenger. It has a 12-speaker audio system from JBL with Dolby Atmos and a dash-mounted soundbar. The company claims that the Sierra has the largest panoramic sunroof in this segment. 19-inch alloy wheels and ambient lighting give it a more premium look.
Tata Sierra Engine and Performance
Tata Sierra has been introduced with three different engine options, which cater to the needs of every type of driver.
- 1.5-litre Hyperion T-GDi Petrol: This is the most powerful engine, which gives power of 160PS and torque of 255Nm. It comes only with a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox.
- 1.5-litre Revotron Petrol: This naturally aspirated engine generates 106PS power and 145Nm torque. It has the option of manual and 7-speed dual-clutch automatic (DCA).
- 1.5-litre Cryojet Diesel: For diesel lovers, this engine gives 118PS power and up to 280Nm torque. It is available in both manual and automatic gearbox.
Tata Sierra Safety and Speed
Sierra has been provided with 22 safety features under Level 2+ ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System). To prove the performance, Tata also shared the data of tests conducted on the NATRAX track of Indore. The Sierra Hyperion Petrol Automatic recorded a mileage of 29.9 kmpl. In the high-speed test it achieved a top speed of 222 kmph. However, the top speed of the vehicles available to customers will be limited to 190 kilometers per hour due to safety reasons.
Tata Sierra Price and Variants
Ex-showroom price of Tata Sierra starts from ₹ 11.49 lakh and goes up to ₹ 21.29 lakh for the top model. It is available in a total of 7 variants – Smart+, Pure, Pure+, Adventure, Adventure+, Accomplished and Accomplished+.
