On March 1, 1896, in the historic Battle of Adwa, Ethiopian soldiers defeated the Italian army and became the first country in Africa to overthrow the colonial power. He protected his independence and sovereignty during that period. Every object kept in Adwa Vijay Museum is a symbol of this victory saga. This huge drum is associated with the same Adwa battle of Ethiopia. In this war, when Ethiopia defeated the Italian colonial army, this drum played a very important role in sending messages to its soldiers and making better use of communication. In fact, this giant drum used to make a roaring sound. Every rhythm of the drum gave a special message to the soldiers and they used to execute their strategy accordingly. The famous drum called Negarit is believed to have been a symbol of Ethiopian emperors and was played during wars, ceremonies and religious events.
