Dal Fara Recipe: Everyone is fond of eating something new and tasty. Especially when it comes to light, healthy and delicious snacks. Amidst the fame of momos and samosas, there is a desi treasure from North India that will make you say, “This has become my favourite!” Yes, we are talking about dal fara. Some people also call it Pitha or Dalpitha. This is a traditional dish of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar which is made from rice flour and lentil stuffing. Dal bhare is not only good in taste but is also best for health. These are cooked in steam, hence no oil is required and they are light to eat. You can serve these in children’s lunch box, tiffin or even in friends’ parties. Along with its taste, its texture is also worth seeing. Light soft from outside and crispy lentil stuffing from inside makes it appealing to everyone, if you are thinking that it will be difficult to make, then you are thinking wrong. This recipe is as easy as it is fun. After following some steps, you can prepare restaurant-like fare at home. So let us know the simple and easy way to make dal phare at home.
Material
-Rice flour-2 cups
-Hot water -about 1.5 to 2 cups
-Salt -as per taste
-Channa dal-1/2 cup
-Urad dal (without peel)-1/2 cup
-Ginger-1 inch piece
-Green chillies-2-3 (as per taste)
-Asafoetida – a pinch
-Cumin-1 tsp
-Turmeric powder -1/2 tsp
-Green Coriander -2-3 tbsp finely chopped
-Ghee/Oil -2 tbsp
Method of preparation
1. Soaking the pulses – First of all, wash the gram and urad dal thoroughly and soak them in water for at least 4-5 hours or overnight.
2. Preparing the stuffing- Take out the soaked dal from water and filter it. Now put it in a mixer grinder along with ginger, green chilli, asafoetida and cumin and grind it coarsely. The paste should not be too thin.
3. Adding spices – Add turmeric, salt and green coriander to the ground lentils and mix well. Your stuffing is ready.
4. Kneading the dough – Add water and salt in a vessel and boil it. Slowly add hot water to the rice flour and mix with a spoon. After it cools down a bit, knead a soft and smooth dough with your hands.
5. Making puris: Break the dough into small balls. Dust them with dry flour and roll them into small puris.
6. Filling the stuffing – Place 1-2 spoons of lentil stuffing in the middle of each puri. Close the edges in the shape of a half moon so that the stuffing does not come out.
7. Steaming- Apply light oil in the steamer and keep the furs at a distance. Cover and cook in steam on medium flame for 15-20 minutes.
8. Checking – Cut one fara and check, if the dal is not sticky and the dough looks transparent, then the fara is cooked.
9. Serving- Cool the cooked fur a little and cut it into small pieces. Serve with green chutney or tomato sauce.
tips
-Add hot water slowly to keep the flour soft.
-Do not grind the dal too much, if it is a little coarse then the dal will taste more delicious.
-If you want, add a little ghee or butter and serve, it enhances the taste.
